I hate to be miss gloom but...

Preface: My mother is 89 y.o., lives alone in her home although my sister is in the same subdivision, is very active in their community such as their chorus, barbershop quartet, selling tickets to club events. She still drives, can go grocery shopping, etc.

Got a call from my mother while I was napping (I am still going through withdrawals and she doesn't know I started smoking again). She called a few times last week but I'm lazy about checking my messages and yes, we still have a landline phone. Those old msg got progressively worse as she was getting more worried and then majorly p***sed.  I called her back last Thursday or Friday..  Today she called and got the answering machine and boy was she p***sed again!   She doesn't seem to remember our conversation last week.  I texted my sister and am hoping for a call or text back from her. I'll call Mom in the morning so I can wait for my sister's response. The smokes are still on the garage workbench and I could give a rat's behind about smoking them. Lord lift me for the merry-go-round of life started spinning too fast.  Can I just get in Swan Boat for a while?

Your captain at your service, Ms. Mini!  DO take a quick break and perhaps daydream about a quick float on the nearest lake.

I HATE that cigarettes are sitting on your workbench in plain site.  Can you get somebody to hide them away somewhere?

I'm not real good at checking my home phone messages, either.  I think they should whistle at you or something from time to time - maybe we could invent something to do that??!!! Nothing annoying, just an occasional reminder would be nice!

I hope tomorrow is a brighter day for you!

She sounds like my Mom who is also 89  and still driving. She is much more forgetful and she can wear on my patience also. That being said your the one who has to choose of your gonna let her drive your bus. Get rid of the workbench smokes. If hubby smokes lock em up and give him the key. Burn some incense ..find a scent you like. Try lavender, it may help calm you. Patchouli is another one of the scents I like that help calm me , especially when there no swan boat to jump into. Do what you need to to do to take care of you Julie. You need to be a little selfish right now. Hugs

Get rid of those cigarettes, having them is not going to help you get through your quit. I'm always reading about how people keep a pack around for whatever reason and then use the pack to relapse. Don't let it be you:(, I want you to succeed.

CONGRATS ON LIVING JUST AS YOU PERSONALLY CHOOSE TO JUST FOR TODAY! GOOD JOB!

Cigs are still there and although today I have been slightly tempted to grab one I vowed to myself I would not touch them because nothing ever got resolved in a cigarette.  There's no little magic problem solver in there waving it's hand and luring me in. There's nothing but shredded paper pulp that looks like tobacco.  I went out to the garage (my old smoking den) and rode my exercise bike and did 4 types of routines which took about 50 minutes.

Today I could see straight finally so I decided to go out since I've been so sick for 2 weeks.  Had a gift card for Starbucks and it's a treat so that's where I went. I always go through the drive through, park in the lot where a small tree shades it, crank the volume on my mp3 player, drink my cappuccino, and smoke.  I made a plan before leaving that I would try to figure out how to use things on the smartphone (God I hate these things) I was forced to buy when I lost my beloved unique flip phone.  That's what I did and sailed through that questionable journey without a thought about smokes.

Talked to my mom this morning and she was fine and didn't say anything about leaving any messages and trust me she would have rammed it down my throat if it had been in the past week.  I think it may be an old call from around the time of the hurricane. I got bitched at for a million other things I'm doing or not doing.  I love that old broad but she can really tear you down when she wants, for me more than anyone. Whatev's. Now I need to do some work around here so thanks for the love, prayers, and the nice swan boat ride conductor Nancy!

Hope things settle for you, Julie.  I am not a fan of keeping cigarettes around either but that might be because I never was able to keep a quit when I knew they were around.

That swan ride sounds lovely...I could use that.

Hugs,

Ellen

lol I only had dreams about buy cigs but I never even smoked them I just thought in my dream well that was really stupid.  I quit smoking for my cat chaos, then it was for me after the years went by.  but I inspired  my mom to quit smoking too.  she was really surprised I quit just doing Nicorette gum.  and my step dad dean was like seeing as Jennifer made it a whole year I was hoping youd fall  in line behind her.  it took her awhile. but she quit too.

good luck Julie. ill be sending you lotd og healing energy.
