Zyn is different. In a really really BAD way

I noticed there is not much here about Zyn pouches, so I wanted to make one to help others.

I am still addicted. Badly. I am up to over a can a day, and use two at a time.

Every time I have tried to go 3+ hours without them and am awake, I get a horrible dizziness, but this is not just any sort of dizziness.

This is like my body is disconnected from my actual mind. It feels like i shifted just slightly out of my skin, and it is frankly terrifying.

I have read of folks with this on reddit.

Zyn is different. It is a designer sort of nicotine, it goes through mucous membranes through your gumbs, and is loaded with sweetners and flavorings that typically do not get a chance to get fed directly to the blood stream.

The artificial sweetners. We have no way of knowing what is happening there, do we.

No one ever did a study on them when they are not consumed, broken down by the stomach. This goes through your gums directly into your blood stream.

I am so miserable all the time. This has been a many YEAR problem, and quitting is literally ALL I think about.

The problem is, I work using my mind. I negotiate high dollar sales deals, and you cannot just do this when i cannot even focus.

I am not sure what to do here, but zyn is often used for folks to stop smoking. I can appreciate all that stuff in the lungs is terrible, but i wager there are other things nicotine on its own does that no one ever mentions.

@Trader2024 Welcome to the Ex.  I see you have a quit date, have you made the decision to quit? There have definitely been some ZYN users here.  Quitting any form of nicotine is not easy.  It's a very addictive chemical and it takes work and preparation, so I hope you don't give up on yourself.

I entered my quits blindly in the past.  I'd pick an aid and a quit date and expected to be successful.  The miracle didn't happen.  In addition to some aids, etc. I found the Ex accidently the week prior to my quit date and learned how to quit for the first time  and the value of support to be successful. After 50 years, I finally got it right.

There are always going to be stressors in out life.  Quitting nicotine is learning about new coping mechanisms.   There are great strategies like exercise, especially walking.  It refocuses your thoughts and you get that boost of dopamine lost when we quit.  Deep breathing exercises are another great tool that can be used for various challenges in our lives.

I understand your concern about losing focus for your job.  Nicotine does improved your focus temporarily, but it doesn't last so you need more.  I know it did for me when I needed to solve a problem at work.  But again it's short lived.   Withdrawal symptoms aren't easy, but the physical withdrawal doesn't last as long as the psychological portion.  Have you consider using some quit aids?.   I used Welbutrin and nicotrol inhalers and little if no physical withdrawal symptoms. You still have to do the work, but they really help.

Understanding Nicotine Addiction & Why Quitting Cold Turkey Is Challenging

Quitting nicotine has different components.   It is physically addictive, as well has having psychological/emotional aspects.  Over time, behaviors associated with nicotine use do also become habits.  When quitting we have to work on both the physical withdrawal as well as the psychological to be successful.   Use this time to educate yourself about nicotine addiction and to prepare for your quit.  This link has some great information to get you started in the right track.

With all due respect, everyone's individual results will vary.

I am certainly NOT using this as a reason to tell someone "this is why i can't quit" because that is utter hogwash.

Of course, no one ever died from not having nicotine. It isnt heroin and doesn't have those levels of severe withdrawls.

At the same time, let's reframe this.

If a person was a professional schoolbus driver and had to drive 8 year olds all day long, would you suggest that they abruptly quit zyn when it made them dizzy to a level that they might run the buss into a car?

That is the unique challenge I have. Things like driving a car become dangerous at point.

I really need to either do a taper, or something else, but need to quit.

But that is why I made my post, because it really is not the same for some people that are highly addicted to zyn to be able to just cut the cord on this stuff.

Some, not all people i should clarify.

@Trader2024 Obviously, most of us have no experience with using Zyn.

See if this helps at all :  https://www.becomeanex.org/ex-resources/about-quitting/get-ready-to-quit/quitting-zyn-and-other-oral...

Thank you for speaking about this.  I did a little reading about ZYN and it's pretty alarming.  Reminds me of when I wanted to switch from smoking to vaping, because I was told vaping was much safer.  Turns out, it's best to avoid ALL of it!  Seems to just be replacing one addiction for another.

hi:  sounds awful! I am so sorry. Stay here and also consider Alan Carr’s book, Stop Smoking  the easy way. I read it a month after I quit and something really clicked for me. No more carvings or at least a lot fewer!   I bought a ton of “ON” when I was getting ready to quit… tried it once b4 realizing what it really was.

ZYN is NOT nicotine replacement… it’s the tobacco industry’s latest  way to hook a new generation  on nicotine.  I would read up on it when you can.

also, terrible for gums and teeth, among other things.  Have you talked to your doc?

once you get through the Withdrawal, you will notice that your thinking gets clearer and you focus more and longer. No nagging need to feed the nicotine monster.

You will get through this and it will get easier!!! I promise! I know!!!!

@Trader2024  any updates? I think a lot of people could learn from your experience.
My younger brother started using Zyn when he stopped smoking and he is now addicted to it. I am hoping you are doing okay and maybe you quit already or you're tapering your usage. I hope you will let us know how it's going!
